music 800Music has been a cornerstone of worship at St. John’s from the very first days of parish organization.  In keeping with the centuries-old Anglican tradition, St. John’s maintains a Choir of highly trained musicians.  We take pride in providing a level of musical excellence which is seldom found today.  The Choir is charged with leading all congregational singing as well as with providing musical offerings on behalf of those in God’s house.  Worshipers are encouraged to lend their voices to those hymns, canticles, and portions of the service that invite congregational singing.

St. Augustine of Hippo said, “He who sings prays twice”.  Music plays an integral part of our worship and identity as Traditional Anglicans, helping us to “pray twice”.

St. John’s has a professional choir, under the direction of Dr. Huw R. Lewis, FRCO.  Working together with the clergy and people, the music ministry of the parish lifts up the heart, soul, and mind to contemplate the awesome majesty of our Good God.

Drawing deeply from our Anglican Heritage, as well as other Western Classics, the choir offers sublime anthems and Service settings, and leads congregational participation during the singing of hymns.

Additionally, special music programs are offered for the greater glory of God and the edification of His people.  This includes Choral Evensong, Special Service Settings on certain Sundays and Holy Days, and concerts by outside choirs and artists.
