The Rev. Steven Steven J. Kelly returned to his hometown of Detroit and began his ministry at St. John’s Church in February of 2001. Although born in New York, Fr. Kelly was raised in Michigan and attended Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Preparatory for high school. He attended The University of Pennsylvania and Temple University, eventually graduating with a degree in political science. He earned his master of divinity degree from Nashotah House Theological Seminary in Wisconsin. He was ordained a deacon by Bishop Edward MacBurney and a priest by Bishop Keith L. Ackerman in 1994. His first ministry position was as the curate at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, outside of Philadelphia. Then from 1996 to 2001, Fr. Kelly served as the rector of St. Mary’s Church in Charleroi, Pennsylvania — a small town about 25 miles south of Pittsburgh.
In his spare time, he enjoys cheering for the Tigers and spending time with his wife, Jennifer, and children Samuel, Andrew, William and Margaret. Until recently that time revolved mostly around coaching little league baseball, but now it is spent supporting his daughter’s gymnastics adventures and sons’ rowing regattas.
